Galaxy S Upgraded To Froyo In The UK [Samsung Rewards English Galaxy S Users With Froyo Update, While Nexus S Sits With Gingerbread]
Gee, thanks Samsung. It’s well known that the Google Nexus S is a close cousin of the Samsung Galaxy S, but many Galaxy S owners were wondering why the Nexus S was shipping with Android 2.3 Gingerbread while the Galaxy S had yet to be officially updated to Android 2.2 “Froyo”. In fact, some enterprising modders even unofficially ported Gingerbread to the Galaxy S. Well, better late than never – Samsung has officially updated UK Galaxy S phones to Android 2.2 Froyo.

The announcement was made via Samsung UK’s official Twitter feed. They Tweeted:
We have some good news for the festive season; 2.2 is now available for the Galaxy S on all networks.
The Tweet then goes on to link to a page on the Samsung site that just hosts a manual for the Galaxy S, updated with Froyo information, as well as the Galaxy S quick start guide. All-in-all, nothing really important nor anything that will tell you when your Galaxy S will be given the update.
Of course, part of the reason we’re seeing such a delay in Android updates is, A – the manufacturers have to update their own custom user interfaces to the new software and; B – the networks feel compelled to test the Android update themselves. This is why many find the Nexus One and Nexus S so appealing, as the unlocked phones receive the updates usually very quickly. The Nexus One has yet to get Android 2.3, which is frustrating some.
As mentioned though, this late Froyo update for the Galaxy S is better than never. Any UK Galaxy S users seen the update yet?
