Instagram Reaches One Million User Milestone, Sets Sights On Android
If you follow tech news, with a little emphasis on the iPhone you have likely heard about the photo app called Instagram. After all, it has received more than its fair share of coverage and praise. But that is not to say it isn’t well deserved.

Given that, it seems part of the reason that we have heard so much is they simply have lots of users — and perhaps more important, they have gotten them very quickly. According to details shared on the Instagram Blog, they now have one million users and have done so in just a few months.
And as many likely remember, the buzz around Instagram hit quickly. TechCrunch is reporting that they were able to pick up their first 100,000 users in the first week alone. Of course, with everyone sharing their newly created filtered images the word of mouth was only bound to happen from that point. The good news is that they have also been able to scale up and keep the service on track and moving forward.
It also appears as if the scaling up and working to maintain started right from the first day, almost as soon as they hit the button for Instagram to go live in the App Store.
“Within a few minutes, they started pouring in. People from places like Japan, France, New York, started signing up in droves. The night of sleep we were hoping for turned into a few meager hours before we rushed into the office to add capacity to the service.”
With that, there seems to be good news for the future of Instagram and it looks like it will be including Android.
“Android is really important to us, and we know it’s important to lots of people too,”
Furthermore, the Instagram team is also looking to take on more funding as well as launch an API and revamp the website. Sadly though, the Android app seems last on the priority list at this point.
