PSP 2 Touch Screen Good For Gameplay, Says PlayStation Boss

PSP 2 Not Competing for Android Or iOS Market Share Either

The pretense of secrecy has all but been dropped by Sony, as the boss of the PlayStation division, none other then Kaz Hirai of “Riiiiiiiiidge Racer!” fame is discussing unconfirmed features of unconfirmed hardware with the press. “Depending on the game, there are ones where you can play perfectly well with a touch panel,” Kaz Hirai said. ”But you can definitely play immersive games better with physical buttons and pads. I think there could be games where you’re able to use both in combination.” He must be talking about all those touch panels on their current line-up of machines, right?

”We’re seeing people who never had an interest in games join the gaming population,” he also said. “That means that the gaming industry pie is getting bigger.” That sort of makes sense, until he promptly contradicts himself. “The games being played on Android and Apple platforms are fundamentally different from the world of immersive games that Sony Computer Entertainment, and PlayStation aims for.” he went on. Which begs the question, is he happy that Apple are expanding the market, or sad that the new gamers Apple is bringing in aren’t the target demographic of the Sony products? Also yeah, Android games are totally not PlayStation material.
