PlayStation Phone Coming In April?

We’ve got some new news regarding the ‘PlayStation Phone’, or ‘PSP Phone’ or ‘Xperia Play’, wherever you want to call it. An inside source talking to the folks at pocket-lint, the device will be unveiled at Sony Ericsson’s press conference in February at MWC. But, that much was known already based on public comments from Sony Ericsson’s CEO. But, we’ve also got an estimated release date for the phone.

The folks talking to pocket-lint have also let lose that the PlayStation Phone will be coming in the Spring – April, to be exact. That’s mentioned as the ‘UK release date’, but we’ve got to assume that that’ll be close to when it will come out in the rest of the world.

They’ve also got some rumored specs for the phone. It measures up as:

• 1GHz processor
• 512MB RAM
• 1GB ROM
• “3.7 to 4.1″ inches

The screen looks a bit closer to 3.7-inches than 4.1-inches to me, to be honest.

The real question is that, will this phone compete? While the phone will certainly use the mobile-style games that we’re used to on the iPhone and Android phones, it is also said to becoming with the ‘Z System’, which will be their closed platform for distributing higher quality games that will be exclusive to this phone.

I’m not quite sure this phone is the “PSP 2″ that we think it may be either. I guess time will tell about this device. Doesn’t sound like we’ll see anything of it at CES, but TFTS will be covering CES live this year from Las Vegas. Keep us in your RSS reader for all the latest.
