Clamcase Released With Pricing Data

The Clamcase iPad Case is Finally Released and Given a Price, Mostly What We Expected

One really great thing about writing tech news is the ability to follow a story, and see if the projections that were made six months or even a year prior to the actual release of a product actually come to pass. That’s just the kind of experience I got with the Clamcase, only recently released for the iPad.

We talked about the Clamcase out here about six months back, and projected that it would be released by the end of the year, which indeed, it was. You’ve heard about this kind of thing an awful lot lately, but the key distinction is that this is really the first one, even if it didn’t get released first.

The Clamcase, word is, was patented only 14 hours after Steve Jobs first announced the iPad in the first place, and what you’re looking at here is the end result of that patent, though other products have actually emerged in the interim. The Clamcase has what a lot of others do–a Bluetooth keypad that allows you to turn your tablet into a small netbook with better performance than you’ll often find in the netbook lines. It also boasts a set of 14 function keys, which in turn will give you access to all your basic functions and include special keys like “slideshow”, “media”, and “search”, among several other possibilities.

You can either set the keyboard in the normal laptop-style configuration, or you can lock it backward to give you an angled vertical rest for you to use the tablet at an angle, which is definitely more convenient in a lot of cases and great for video.

The downside here is the price tag, which will set you back a whopping $119, and you can order this right now direct from Clamcase (though I’m told it won’t ship until next month). It might be a little more than you’d like to shell out, but it definitely has the look and the features to make it worthwhile.
