Sharp to Produce LCD Screens for Apple
Sharp will be building LCD screens for Apple, in a report by Nikkei Business Daily earlier this week. The Japanese electronics company has started a $1.2 billion facility, which will produce small and midsize LCD panels for Apple products, including the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Apple is said to have shouldered a big portion of this investment, and has committed to acquiring most of the LCD screens produced. The new production line will be installed on Sharp’s Kameyanma plant in the Japanese prefecture of Mie.
Sharp has previously provided LCD panels for Apple’s iPod touch, but the new contract is for the production of high-resolution Retina Display screens, which are used on the 4th generation iPhone and iPod Touch.
With this new contract, we might speculate on something even better. Apple has patented a technology for virtual reality through naked-eye 3D. Sharp is also known for producing autostereoscopic screens, particularly for the Nintendo 3DS and its own Galapagos line of smartphones.
