Samsung Galaxy S Gingerbread Port Available Via Goole Nexus S; Froyo Not in Sight

Samsung Galaxy S Already Gets Gingerbread Port from Nexus S, Official Froyo Still Annoyingly Pending

The Samsung Google Nexus S Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone has started selling on December 16 and the new device has already been rooted on launch day. Today we’re going to tell you that Gingerbread has been stripped from it and a Gingerbread port for the Galaxy S, the Nexus S bigger brother, has been apparently created.

The fine and obvious irony here is that the Galaxy S might be unofficially upgraded to Android 2.3 before the Android 2.2 Froyo becomes official, and, in case you are a Galaxy S owner, you already know what I mean.

Despite having been officially approved and announced a while ago, the Froyo update for the Galaxy S is available in limited markets only and some of those markets have already important issues with it, yes, Canada, we mean you.

So instead of waiting for Froyo, why not get Gingerbread while we’re at it? We’d never advise you to go for unofficial firmware for your smartphone, whether Android or any other mobile OS, but since we know you’ll always want to do whatever you please with your mobile device we’re going to keep telling you what’s available, and how to properly do it.

The guys that pulled it all off are, like always, posting it on xda-developers but an official guide to install Gingerbread on the Galaxy S is not available just yet. You’ll also need to know that “GPS / Voice / WiFi / Some Buttons / Camera” don’t work yet, but they’ll probably do in the very near future.

Make sure you subscribe to our feed and follow us on Twitter to get all the Gingerbread upgrade details for your Galaxy S and, until then, make sure you check out these following videos that show Gingerbread running on the Samsung Galaxy S.

Oh, and is anyone willing to skip the official Froyo update for some unofficial Gingerbread action? Leave your comments below!
