Italy: Most Smartphone-Savy Country, Finds Nielsen

Nielsen Market Research Finds That More Italian Young People Have Adapted To Smartphones Than Elsewhere

If I were to ask you which country had the highest percentage of smartphone users in the 15-24 age group, what would you say? The United States? Japan? England? Nope. According to a market research survey done by Nielsen, it’s Italia, where 47% of kids in that group are using a smartphone. That’s half! That’s the biggest percentage of smartphone owners in that group.

Here’s what Nielsen found, again, in kids aged 15-24, percentage of smartphone users:

Which percentage of those users are male and female? Nielsen also asked.

I think it’s good to put in perspective that while many of those who read (and write) tech blogs are heavy smartphone users, and we couldn’t imagine going back to a simple phone that just made phone calls and sent text messages, a lot of folks still use their boring featurephone, day in, day out. We’ve seen a lot of comment and prediction from some executives in the industry who believe that eventually smartphones will come to take over the whole industry – but I’d way we’re a long way from that.
