EA CEO: $99 Wii Would "Explode", Nintendo Still Not Offering Proper Third Party Support

EA's CEO Says A Sub-$100 Nintendo Wii Price Point Would See Huge Sales

EA CEO John Riccitiello can spread both kinds of love when need be and this time he’s dispensing a bit of the tough variety for Nintendo’s Wii strategy. And while Nintendo maintain the Wii is selling just lovely, thank you so much, just like the PS2 and all that, we can’t help but gingerly remind them the video gaming market is much bigger now than when the PS2 reigned supreme and you guys are the ones who expanded it, remember?

“I would say they did exceptionally well in ’07 and ’08, started tapering in ’09 and ’10, and… I think if they were to price down to $99, they would explode. I think they’ve now got competition, in the form of gesture-based gaming from Sony and Microsoft. If they were to find ways to promote third party content better, as opposed to first party content, and would hit pricing, I think the platform would see new life.” is how Riccitiello put it. And  honestly, would you put it any other way?
