Amazon Kindle Sells in Millions in 73 Days; We Have No Idea How Many Millions

Amazon Announces Impressive New Kindle Sales, But Like Always, Forgets to Actually Mention the Number

This isn’t the first time Amazon announces millions of Kindle sales without actually mentioning a number. This time however we’re talking about the new Kindle eReader as that’s the unit Amazon is bragging about before the holidays.

In fact Amazon didn’t really send out a press release with this unmentioned milestone, a few million Kindle sales, but instead issued a “Thank You!” note to customers:

Thank you Kindle customers!

Thanks to you, in just the first 73 days of this holiday quarter, we’ve already sold millions of our all-new Kindles with the latest E Ink Pearl display. In fact, in the last 73 days, readers have purchased more Kindles than we sold during all of 2009. We’re grateful for and energized by the overwhelming customer response.

Thank you for being a customer,

The Kindle Team

P.S. Kindle is far and away our bestselling gift item. You can learn more about our all new Kindle with the most advanced E Ink pearl display for $139 at amazon.com/kindle

We will agree with Amazon on the fact that the new Kindle is a great product and we can see why it would sell that well considering what it has to offer, and, most importantly, its price.

But we still don’t get why isn’t Amazon saying exactly how many million Kindle eReaders it sold in these 73 days? It’s obviously more than 1 million, in fact we should be looking at around 3 million, just to be make sure Amazon can use “millions” in the first place. Even if it was just 1 million new Kindle sold, that would still be a remarkable milestone, so there’s no point being ashamed to admit the actual number.

On comparison other companies have no issues to announce exactly how many million products or apps their customers have purchased and/or downloaded in a set period of time, so we’re definitely waiting for Amazon to come clean with its Kindle numbers too!
