Dead Space: Aftermath Coming Soon To DVD & Blu-Ray

Dead Space Animated Film Tells The Story Between Dead Space 1 & 2, Expect A Lot Of Blood And Aliens

Dead Space was a great, thrilling sci-fi horror game from Electronic Arts that told the story of a lone repair engineer on an alien infested space station. Dead Space 2 is coming out soon on all major platforms, but do you need your Dead Space fix sooner? An animated film, Dead Space: Aftermath, is coming out on January 24th, on Blu-Ray and DVD.

I’m told that the story involves a US government crew being sent back to the original planet in order to take some samples of the aliens, or something. As with usual thriller/sci-fi fare, it’s a horrible idea. If the aliens don’t get them right there, they’ll only break lose back at headquarters and kill everybody there. Either way, it’s a bad idea. But, enough with my analysis. The film builds on the plot of the first game, the comic book series and the Wii game to bridge the gap to the second game.

The DVD will cost $27 in the United States and £16 in the UK while the Blu-Ray will cost $35 in the United States and £20 in the United Kingdom.

This film, along with the Dead Space comic book, Wii game and PS3 interactive comic are all apart of EA’s “trans-media” staretgy to further promote and expand the Dead Space intellectual property. It reminds me of LucasFilm’s Shadows of the Empire multimedia project in the late 1990s, if you are old enough to remember that. They basically had all the toys video games and merchandise of a Star Wars movie without a Star Wars movie.

Anyway, Dead Space is a great, refreshing IP for Electronic Arts, so expect them to milk it, even after the second game comes out.
