PSP 2 Packing Early PS3 Level Visuals, May Play PS3 Titles

PSP 2 Said To Be Approaching PS3 In Terms Of Processing Power

Let’s get something out of the way, the PSP 2 and the Sony Ericsson Z1 Zeus PlayStation Phone, two totally different things. One is an Android phone with gaming controls and limited PlayStation integration, the other is the continuation of the current PSP tradition. And it’s that latter one we’re hearing more of the same about.

An IGN report says the PSP 2 is packing bonkers levels of muscle under the hood. “As far as graphics are concerned, the PSP2 is a beast, packing enough processing hardware to produce graphics comparable to early PlayStation 3 titles,”is their way of putting it. “The processor, we’re told, is just over half as powerful as the PS3, though the specific framework of the cores and the clock speed was not revealed.” Entirely suficient, since it will be feeding a much smaller screen. The intention is also apparently to allow you to switch seamlessly between PS3 and PSP 2 gaming for the same title, which we’ll pretty much believe when we see it. Michael Pachter’s pretty much given up on it, but we’re reserving judgment until we see this thing in action.
