Rumors Have AOL Breaking Up And Merging With Yahoo

Will AOL Join Forces With Yahoo To Make A Run At Google?

Rumors have recently begun flying that AOL might make a series of moves that would see the company break up into smaller pieces with the end game being a merger with Yahoo. If the two companies did decide to merge it could mean that the internet’s baddest kid on the block, Google would have some real competition.

Still, details about exactly how such a restructuring would take place are sketchy at best. There are even some rumors that AOL has yet to actually tell Yahoo what their plans are which would make an easy merger seem a little more difficult than usual. One of the main reasons that AOL might be looking to find new revenue streams is because of their reliance on their struggling dialup business. While the company still has four million customers in its dialup division, one industry insider says the company is losing 200,000 to 300,000 customers per fiscal quarter.
