Amazon.com Rumored As Working On Streaming Service To Compete With Netflix
Yesterday we mentioned the news that Vizio and OnLive were both looking to launch a streaming service to compete with Netflix and now it looks like Amazon may have something similar in mind. Though, the details that have been found so far seem a little light. In other words, anything is possible but we are going to have to reserve any potential happiness for a time when we have a bit more to go on.

That said, the details are coming by way of a recent Wall Street Journal report and an anonymous source. Of course, with Amazon already having their Amazon On Demand service available this seems like a pretty likely move. Still, the details on how they may end up going about this seem just a little strange.
According to those anonymous sources, Amazon would include the streaming service as a bundle with their Amazon Prime service. And for those not familiar, Amazon Prime is a shipping service — hence the strange.
“Amazon.com Inc. is developing a Netflix-like subscription service that would offer TV shows and movies, according to people familiar with the matter. That service would be included as a bundle with its Amazon Prime shipping service, which costs $79 a year, those people said.”
Needless to say, this move could be good for Amazon and their Prime service. Me personally, I have often considered signing up and have always passed. Despite still thinking it would benefit me in the long run. Given that, and throwing in the perk of being able to stream movies and television and you would have me convinced. I also refuse to believe I am alone in that respect.
But in addition to someone like myself needing that little bump to go with Amazon Prime, the service is only $79 per year, which means that you would have a savings of about $20 per year as compared to Netflix. And if the thought of getting good deals on shipping were not enough, saving almost $20 may be enough for others. Plus Amazon has to have some lead given their current place in the On Demand market.

It’ll all depend on the selection. Netflix has had a “meh” streaming selection for a while now. If Amazon secures some serious titles and the price is competitive then I’d definitely consider switching.
