Tomb Raider Reboot Announced, Looks Way More Interesting Than It Has A Right To
The Tomb Raider series seemed to be putting its troubled past behind it in the past few years, with a string of competent sequels that were only spectacular in their adequacy, but at least pushing the steaming pile of Angel Of Darkness out of the public’s awareness, where it belongs. This, however, smells like a turning point, and while this may be just our imaginations running away with us, the fresh-faced image of Lara Croft, bearing a striking resemblance to Tricia Helfer for some glorious reason, as well as the bow and the catastrophic images teased so far make this feel like a horse of a different color altogether.

Crystal Dynamics’ Darrell Gallagher calls this “an origins story that creates Lara Croft and takes her on a character defining journey like no other” and also says you should “forget everything you knew about Tomb Raider“, which shouldn’t be a problem seeing how anything memorable about Tomb Raider happened a good while back. The new game should take us to the foundational trauma that turned Lara Croft into a survivor, hence the vaunted tagline “A survivor is born”.
