Boingo & T-Mobile Expand Wi-Fi Partnership
Boingo and T-Mobile have recently announced what is described as being a “renewed and extended bilateral roaming agreement.” And in simpler terms, it means that both companies have extended the terms of their agreement and that means T-Mobile customers can Boingo Hotspots and Boingo customers will be able to use some T-Mobile Hotpots.

“Expanding our agreement with T-Mobile USA reinforces our commitment to delivering customers seamless Wi-Fi access to a larger, collective footprint,” said Colby Goff, senior vice president of strategy for Boingo Wireless.
Breaking this down a little further and we learn that on the T-Mobile side, those who are Hotspot and/or postpaid customer will be able to use the Boingo service a 53 airports across the United States and Canada. The locations include airports such as New York and Chicago as well other non-airport locations such as the Washington State Ferries in the Seattle area.
“We pride ourselves in listening to our customers and giving them access to Wi-Fi when and where they need it. Boingo users can now enjoy connectivity at airport lounges – a top request – and we welcome T-Mobile subscribers to our airport and ferry networks.”
On the Boingo side, this means that these customers will be able to take advantage of T-Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspots at airport locations as well as airline club and hotel locations. Some of those clubs include American Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and Delta Airlines. On the hotel side, Hyatt Hotels was mentioned.
Seems like a win-win for both companies and in-turn their customers. After all, it seems only logical that a partnership would be less expensive as compared to rolling out new networks in new areas. Plus, not even on the expense side, but it seems this method would be quicker as opposed to having to roll-out new network infrastructure.
And lastly, this partnership will allow laptops as well as other Wi-Fi enabled handheld devices including smartphones and portable media players.
