Kinectimals Plush Toys Coming Next Year

Microsoft Goes For The Webkinz Model, Selling Plush Toys For Kinectimals In 2011

Microsoft has announced that they’ll be releasing “five unique plush animals” in Spring 2011 for Kinectimals. In case you’re unfamiliar with the plush toys that came with the collector’s edition of Kinectimals – they’re real life toys that feature a QR code that you hold up to the Kinect camera. The camera scans the toys into the game. Then, you’ve got a virtual Kinectimal of your real pet. It’s the Webkinz model!

If you have a kid, then you know what Webkinz is. It’s the same concept, a real-life plush toy that features an online web code that lets the kids play with their Webkinz on the website. They were the hot toy for a while and reported were even pulling in $100 million/year in revenue. Now, Microsoft and Kinectimals are going the same route. Kinectimals is probably the most kid-friendly Kinect game and has almost no redeeming value for adults (Sorry, Kinectimals fans. This isn’t Viva Piñata.)

Toy company Jakks Pacific will be making the five unique plush animal toys. It sounds like this will just be the start of this extra “content” for Kinectimals. No how much on each will cost. Remember that the Collector’s Edition of Kinectimals came with one of two plush animals, a “King Cheetah” and “Maltese Tiger”.

It’s kinda like it’s a physical distributional of DLC. But, instead of going through a menu to see it, kids will see it in the toy stores and beg until they get it. It’s a win-win!
