Android Running On BlackBerry Torch... On Brochure
A few days ago, the tech blog world was LOL’ing after some graphic designer accidentally photoshopped the iPhone Google Maps app onto the screen of the Motorola Droid X (An Android device, of course). Now, we bring you another story from the “graphic design ooops” files. French carrier Phoneo issued a brochure that shows an Android home screen on the BlackBerry Torch 9800. Actually, it kinda looks good on there.

The offending home screen is from the MOTOBLUR custom UI, and the wallpaper is an exclusive of the Droid X (I know, because I use it too.). So, the graphic design chap from Phoneo took an image from an American Android phone and put it on the Torch 9800. It’s sort of a harmless mixup, though I imagine that RIM and Motorola wouldn’t be too happy about it. Especially since manufacturers like Motorola who use these custom Android UIs think of their custom user interfaces as important intellectual property that separates their products from all the other Android phones.
And it’s sort of a slap in the face to RIM. They’ve worked hard on making BlackBerry OS 6.0 the most touchscreen optimized version of that operating system. I don’t know if that picture of the Torch had just a blank screen before the guy ‘shopped it, but it’s somewhat insulting if he decided that BB OS 6.0 didn’t look good enough. Anyway, it’s sort of a funny mix up, either way.
Anyway, if you live in France, Phoneo is selling the BlackBerry Torch 9800 for €129 ($171). Android not included.
