Verizon Confuses iOS & Android, Places iPhone Google Maps Screenshot Into Droid X Advertisement [Verizon Wants Us To Think They Have An iOS-running Droid X, Or They Are Just Bad At Telling Mobile Operating Systems Apart]

In what may have otherwise be missed, or simply looked at as a minor mistake — Verizon has mixed up a Google Maps (from iOS) screenshot and added it to an Android smartphone in a recent advertisement. And not just any Android smartphone, they added it to a Motorola Droid X.

So some are thinking so what, and who cares. Well, truthfully this is probably not quite as interesting because a mix-up happened, but because it happened to be involving a Motorola Android smartphone. And for those not as familiar with some of these recent smartphone wars — Motorola has taken more than a few shots at the iPhone in the past. One ad that comes to mind was in regards to antennagate and involved a full page ad in a prominent newspaper.

That said, yes that was technically the iPhone 4 and this is a screenshot from iOS. But that said, we can only imagine some hothead over at Motorola getting all fired up and some lowly advertising person who is ultimately only in charge of pasting screenshots into smartphones getting yelled at. Ok, so that last bit was entirely made up for our (and your) enjoyment. But still, it could happen.

With that, just for anyone confused, this was simply a mistake and in no way do we think it was intended to be anything more. Still, you would think they would have caught that before it went live. Hey Verizon, you may want to update your graphic. Of course, even if you update it, the image is already being preserved across the internet for all us geeks to get a chuckle from. For that, thanks.

And maybe, just maybe the next time you run an ad with an iPhone screenshot it will be because you are advertising the release of a Verizon-branded iPhone.
