Microsoft Announces 2.5 Million Kinects Sold Worldwide So Far
Microsoft announced today that, due partly to the rush over Black Friday weekend, Kinect has now sold over 2.5 million units since launch. Yeah, you hear that? That’s the sound of me eating my words from back when I said that changing their goal to 5 million sold by the end of the year was too ambitious. Of course, 5 million by the end of the year is still a pretty hefty goal, considering they’ve only got about a month to go and pre-orders are included in that first 2.5 million, but selling 5 million by year’s end certainly looks more attainable now.

“With sales already exceeding two and a half million units in just 25 days, we are on pace to reach our forecast of 5 million units sold to consumers this holiday,” Microsoft said in a press release today. There, see? Even they said they’ll make it. The fact of the matter is, no matter how ridiculous you think they are for saying they’ll sell 5 million by the end of the year, this first 2.5 million puts them well on their way. I still think it’s going to be close, but with the Christmas rush right around the corner, I also now think they might just make it.
