iPad 2 Camera Lens Module Coming from Largan Precision

New Rumors Say the iPad 2 Will Have Camera Lens Modules from a Taiwanese Company

Recently we heard about 5 new specs and features the iPad 2 is going to dazzle us with (better display, 3-axis gyroscope, USB, better mobility and video calling support) and today we’re going to talk more about that last one, video calling and thus iPad video cameras.

A while ago we heard that OmniVision, the company that was put in charge of making iPhone cameras, will also be responsible for the next-gen’s iPad front and back cameras. Today Digitimes reports that Largan Precision, a Taiwanese company, is going to be the “sole lens module supplier for Apple’s upcoming iPad 2 tablet with shipments to kick off in the first quarter of 2011.”

Largan is also supplying Apple with 5-megapixel lens modules for the iPhone 4 so we shouldn’t be surprised Apple has decided to continue their partnership with them, although there’s nothing official to confirm any of these rumors yet.

What’s certain is that the next-gen iPad will simply have to come with camera support and there are two important reasons to back this statement up. First off all Apple’s video chatting platform is spreading fast to more and more Apple devices. FaceTime, initially available on the iPhone, is now available on the iPod touch 4G too and all Macs out there that come equipped with a webcam. Apple will surely bring FaceTime to the iPad 2 too since the device will probably be an iconic device for the company anyway.

Secondly, but also a very important details, the main iPad competitors, themselves first-generation tablets, already come with video chatting and picture taking features so the iPad 2 simply must have them too.

We don’t expect Apple or Largan Precision tell us more about their business relationship and we don’t really care that much what kind of front-facing and back cameras the iPad 2 will have since, at the end of the day, we’re definitely sure Apple will bring these features to its upcoming tablet.
