Dead Rising 2: Case Zero Sales Numbers Hit 600,000 Copies Downloaded
Dead Rising 2: Case Zero – Capcom’s unique marketing tool for Dead Rising 2, a completely standalone pint sized game that feeds into the story of Dead Rising 2, has been a smash success. Capcom has announced that Dead Rising 2: Case Zero has gone to sell 600,000 downloads.

For those out of the know, Case Zero was a single chapter with a plot set two years before the events of Dead Rising 2. It’s not a demo – the game isn’t a slice out of Dead Rising 2, though it does use the same engine and gameplay mechanics and sort of shows off what Dead Rising 2 will be/was. The new “preLC” (pre and DLC, get it?) was pretty well received by the gaming community.
Case Zero had sold 300,000 units in its first week, and 500,000 by it’s second week, so sales considerably dropped off, but Capcom was still satisfied with its impact. Capcom UK product manager Karl Reader said that Case Zero had the same marketing impact as a £1,000,000 TV ad campaign. That’s a lot of impressions, surely.
So where is Case West? At the Tokyo Game Show in September, hot off the success of Case Zero, Capcom announced another DLC mini-episode. Dubbed Dead Rising: Case West, it unites the heroes of the first two Dead Rising games, Frank “I’ve covered wars you know” West from Dead Rising 1 and Chuck “Yeah, you’re on fire” Green from DR2. It also reintroduces the photography game mechanic from Dead Rising 1 – which some people are excited about (not me, mind you).
