BlackBerry Curve 8980 Gets An FCC Revealing

Sometimes it seems like the FCC filings are for the benefit of the tech community, and by that I am not referring to keeping our devices in check before they are released, but instead because they often reveal devices before they are officially announced. Given that, it looks like RIM needs to offer up something official in terms of the BlackBerry Curve 8980.

Yup, the FCC has struck again and let lose the details for the follow-up device to the Blackberry Curve 8900 and interestingly enough, the replacement device has taken a few points from the Bold lineup. Though, we should be fair on the FCC and given them some props as they do not often reveal BlackBerry devices.

That said, the device, which is the Curve 8980 has looks similar to that of the Bold 9700. In addition, the 8900 to 8980 naming pattern fits in with the Bold 97xx process. Otherwise, we do have the nice image as you can see above in this post and some specs, however we are awaiting the official word from RIM and that means we are still unsure as to when the Curve 8980 is going to be available and which carrier(s) will be offering it.

In addition to that image, the specs that we can mention include support for quad-band GSM/EDGE, 256MB flash memory, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, microUSB, 3.2 megapixel camera with flash, 3.5mm headphone jack and an optical trackpad along with BlackBerry keyboard.

And lastly, for those feeling like they need to learn anything and everything they can about the BlackBerry Curve 8980 prior to the official announcement, the FCC filing includes external and internal images along with the complete user manual, the Safety and Product Information pamphlet and much more. Of course, without carrier info and pricing that knowledge may end up going to waste should it arrive with a carrier that is not your choice.
