Survey Asks Gamers What PS1 Game They'd Like Remade On PS3, Square Enix Makes Strong Showing

Square Games Dominate List Of PS1 Games Gamers Want Remade On PS3

A recent October survey was conducted by Goo Rankings that asked what PS1 classics gamers would like to see remade on the PS3. Well, the results are in and they’re, at the same time, surprising but what was expected. The survey polled 1,075 people – roughly one third of them males, while females made up the other two thirds (duh). 18.1% were in their 20s, 30.9% in their and 25.7% in their 40s. Check out the results after the break, and then you can let the flaming commence.

  • 1. Final Fantasy VIII (Square)
  • 2. Final Fantasy VII (Square)
  • 3. Final Fantasy IX (Square)
  • 4. Xenogears (Square)
  • 5. Valkyrie Profile (Enix)
  • 6. Paraiste Eve (Square)
  • 7. Ghost in the Shell (Sony)
  • 8. Bakusou Dekotora Densetsu (Human)
  • 9. Klonoa: Door to Phantomile (Namco)
  • 10. Dino Crisis (Capcom)
  • 11. King’s Field (From Software)
  • 12. Segare Ijiri (Square)
  • 13. Legend of Dragoon (Sony)
  • 14. Front Mission Alternative (Square)
  • 15. Vagrant Story (Square)
  • 16. Tobal No.1 (Square)
  • 17. Kowloon’s Gate (Artdink)
  • 18. Bushido Blade (Square)
  • 19. Ehrgeiz (Square)
  • 20. Pepsiman (Kid)

It shouldn’t surprise many people that Square and Enix games dominate the list, but should be a little shocking that Final Fantasy VIII is taking the top spot over Final Fantasy VII. This could have something to do with the ratio of female to male respondents, though, since Final Fantasy VIII is a love story and Final Fantasy VII a tragedy. I’m not trying to reinforce gender stereotypes or anything, just telling it like it is (or like it may be).

So, how about it? Does this echo the list of remakes you’d like to see on PS3? Are you angry that, in this case at least, Final Fantasy VIII takes precedence over Final Fantasy VII? Sound off in the comments.
