Samsung Galaxy Tab: Here Is How To Bypass The 3G Activation

Bypass The Activation On Your Galaxy Tab & Use The Device With Wi-Fi Only

It seems like those waiting for a Wi-Fi only Samsung Galaxy Tab may start to get a little impatient as that model has been delayed and no specific release timeframe has been announced. That said, there is always the option to purchase a carrier branded model and simply use it as a Wi-Fi only device.

There are a few good points and a few bad points with that option. Some of these bad points are just that — bad points that cannot be changed, however there is one tip that we can offer to make the experience a little smoother. But first, the good and bad that we can see. The first bad is the price, if you go the carrier branded model you will end up paying more than you would should you decide to wait. In this respect, that will have to be up to you to decide on whether or not it is worth it. That said, while you will be paying a premium, there is always the little bit of comfort in knowing that should you decide you want 3G later — you can. And yes, that is the positive that we can see.

Moving on though, the one part we can offer some solid help with this morning — bypassing the carrier activations. According to what we have read this is being used with some mixed experience. Some are offering glaring reviews and some are stating that the process needs to be repeated two or three times before it works. Either way, it is simple enough to do should you fall into that repeat category.

To bypass the carrier activation on a Samsung Galaxy Tab;

  • Press “Volume Up” one time
  • Press “Volume Down” two times
  • Press “Volume Up” three times
  • Press “Volume Down” four times

I am thinking it cannot get much simple that this, well, simple as long as you can find the volume buttons and count from one to four. Given that, we think anyone reading TFTS is more than capable. And that should wrap things up, you now have a Wi-Fi only Galaxy Tab — that is until you change your mind and decide you should add 3G connectivity.

With that, while the initial plan is to simply ditch the 3G and use the Galaxy Tab as a Wi-Fi only device — we do recommend putting some thought into carrier coverage and available data plans — just in case.
