Lenovo S800 Shown Off, Features Transparent Display [Lenovo's New Cell Phone Has A See-Through Display]
Lenovo has done some really interesting things with cell phones–the Lenovo LePhone is still making strides all across Europe–but this one may be one of the strangest cell phones I’ve ever seen. Their new S800 (the name isn’t official yet, but that’s what it’s going by for now) looks like your ordinary smartphone, until you look at the display. Rather…until you look through the display.

The Lenovo S800 is a fairly normal smartphone, by all appearances, except its display is transparent. Interestingly, this is not the first time that a transparent display phone has ever been offered–the first one to try it was Sony Ericsson, who offered up the Xperia Pureness. Lenovo is looking to try something similar with its S800.
And lest you think this is just Lenovo trying for a piece of a niche market, that’s simply not the case. Lenovo’s display will be a step up from the Pureness, as the S800 is a full color display whilst the Pureness stopped at grayscale.
The S800 made its debut out at a fashion show in Beijing, so no one but the models had access to it. Though at last report, the phone is in fact working, so the models were running around with working models of the phones in question. Pictures were actually acquired–one of them is located above–showing the models trying out the new phones.
Sadly, we don’t yet have anything on specs or release dates for the S800, though we’ll be keeping an eye out. Lenovo seems pretty determined to play this one close to the vest, especially with CES coming up in a matter of weeks. And who knows? The iPhone 6 might well go transparent if a strange new trend emerges and the Lenovo S800 proves popular, though as the Pureness proved, it’s going to take a lot more than a transparent display to keep people interested.
