Samsung Galaxy Tab Sales Numbers Hit 600k

Korean Newspaper reports That Over Half A Million Android Tablets Have Been Sold By Samsung - A Success For The Expensive Devices?

Our TFTS review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab recently came out, and we gave it a full recommendation. Surely because of that, it’s being reported that the Galaxy Tab is selling well for a $600 device without the Apple logo. The Korea Herald, Korea’s #1 English-language newspaper, is reporting that Samsung has sold 600,000 tablets worldwide, thus far.

Like the Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung has made the Galaxy Tab available everywhere, and the Korea Herald claims that the Galaxy Tab is available in 90 different countries worldwide. Despite earlier rumors that Samsung was cutting supply due to poor demand, Samsung told the Herald that there was more demand than supply for the Galaxy Tab in most countries. In Korea’s home country of Samsung, where the people bleed Samsung Blue, they’ve sold 40,000 units (keep in mind, that South Korea is considerably smaller market than Europe and North America).

Samsung is said to be happy with the sales of the Galaxy Tab. Back in September when they officially announced the Galaxy Tab at the IFA trade show in Berlin, Germany, Samsung boldly declared that they would aim to sell 1 million Galaxy Tabs in 2010, despite a release late in the year. They’re certainly on their way with 600k sold, but they’d have to make up 100k per week in order to meet that goal by new year. If any company can do that, it’s Samsung (the world’s largest electronics company) with their massive production and sales capabilities. The decent sales numbers are especially good for Samsung, considering that some thought that the price of the Galaxy Tab was too high, even though the Galaxy Tab is still cheaper than the cheapest iPad 3G in the United States.

Speaking of Apple, the iPad will go on sale in Korea on November 30th. Looks like Samsung’s home turf will be a tough battlegrown between the home-grown Android tablet and the big boy from California this holiday season.
