Apple Bans Android Magazine App From iPhone App Store [Magazine App Covering Android Only Dropped From App Store]

Apple’s famously ridiculous App Store approval process, which sees nothing wrong with hate mongering but has a problem with naughty words in the dictionary strikes another blow for completely pointless and random displays of power. Case in point, Danish publisher’s Mediaworld magazine app not getting through the approval process, the main reason cited being that Android Magasinet, the app in question, covers Android exclusively.

Not only are there other magazines with Android-exclusive coverage on the App Store, there are apparently other Danish magazine apps with the same sort of content already approved, which speaks volumes. Titled “Hypocrisy” and “Danes love them some Android, man” respectively. This also mirrors Apple’s attitude regarding anything resembling nudity, which despite a much-touted purge still thrives on the App Store. We’d like your take, can Apple’s reaction to continued complaints about the App approval process be considered apathy or just downright disdain?

I don’t understand what your complaint is. You said yourself that there are plenty of magazine apps with exclusive android coverage. Are you suggesting they anti-Danish? Are people looking to apple to be a morale police force? They’re looking to make money with their business model, including the app approval process. Period.

Your point about them allowing hate mongering but banning “bad words” is a good one, but the best course would be for them to allow both not neither which will probably be the result when the court of public opinion weighs in. In the grand scheme of things I’m more comfortable with them banning android propaganda than banning their definition of morally reprehensible materials.

I should think the hypocrisy of not approving one Android magazine app because it’s an Android magazine app when your Store is crawling with Android magazine apps that you didn’t have a problem with until now would be patently obvious, regardless of what you do or don’t allow otherwise. And pointing out there’s even another Danish one served to point out that it’s definitely not because they’re Danish.

Apple can do whatever they like with their platform, it’s their prerogative, but as they’re doing it in public, calling their policies chaotic and hypocritical when warranted is mine. Also, Android propaganda? Really?
