La Boite Concept’s LD120 Offers Speakers In A Laptop Desk [The LD120 Puts 2.1 Channel Audio Directly Inside A Laptop Desk]

You’ve got to hand it to the folks at La Boite Concept for pushing the envelope in terms of creative multitasking. They’ve recently unveiled their LD120, a laptop docking station that’s part stylish furniture and part home audio feature.

Sounds like a strange combination, I know–no forehead-slapping chocolate and peanut butter combination here that’s obvious only in retrospect–but the folks out at La Boite Concept have worked out a way to insert 2.1 channel audio directly into a laptop docking station that also serves as a small desk. I think they call that sort of thing an “escritoire” over in France–my French is poor at best, though Google does seem to back me up on this in a roundabout sort of way.

Anyway, it’s a very simple design–just plug your laptop into the the LD120 via the USB port (it has a USB DAC converter) or use one of the two available backup ports to plug in your laptop or music player of choice. Then, you’ll get sound firing right out of the desk’s mounted speakers for, effectively, 2.1 channel audio.

You’ll also get a down-firing subwoofer, seven total drivers (including a few pointed at the nearest wall to bounce sound back in your direction) and a leather desk pad so that you can actually put your computer on top of this thing without it being shaken into oblivion by a whole lot of thumping bass pouring out of said subwoofer.

The whole thing, as you can see from the picture, looks downright chi-chi, if I can be forgiven a strange turn of phrase, but will sadly cost accordingly. What, you weren’t expecting that stereo sound coming out of a writing desk would be cheap, were you? Anyway, this sucker will set you back a whopping 980 euros (around $1300 US), so you’d better have a big redecorating budget to add this sucker in.
