Number Of Windows Phone 7 Developers Hits 15,000
Microsoft still isn’t talking about how many Windows Phone 7 devices they’ve sold. It’s been about a month now since the new phone platform was launched internationally and about 3 weeks since it was introduced in America. What Microsoft is talking about, is the developer reaction to WP7. Microsoft is claiming that some 15,000 developers have signed up to develop for Windows Phone 7.

Writing on the official Windows Phone blog, Microsoft Product Planner Todd Brix writes that:
We’ve also seen a near 80% increase in the number of registered developers since September, with more than 15,000 developers already signaling their intent to bring exciting content to Windows Phone. Clearly we’re just getting warmed up.
He adds:
We’re heading into one of the biggest shopping weeks of the year and we’re on pace to offer roughly 3,000 apps and games by the end of this week.
3,000 apps is also slightly a headline, since 2,000 apps had been the previously reported total number of WP7 apps. Obviously, a good app ecosystem is the lifeblood of any mobile platform and it’s great to see Windows Phone 7 doing so well.
Some will say that this success is “clouded” by the so-called “bribes” that Microsoft offers developers. As we reported last week, Microsoft is making certain revenue guarantees to some Android and iOS developers in an attempt to lure them to the platform. Some see it as good business, while others believe that it’s Microsoft trying to bribe their way to success.
Regardless, Windows Phone 7 seems to be pretty generally well-received. Looks like Microsoft has a competent player in the mobile space.

Microsoft isn’t boasting about Windows Phone 7 handset sales. We can only assume that it’s been a flop.
