Gear4 Announces House Party AirWave Dock

Docking Station Offers Streaming Internet Radio And A Station For Your iPod

Admittedly, home audio products can often be a bit on the bulky side, as they’re often geared toward doing double duty as home theater audio products too. After all, why have that big old speaker array only play music when you could patch your movies in through them too, and get the biggest explosions and the loudest screams possible? Well, for things like the Gear4 House Party AirWave, there’s a little more focus on compactness, but not on lost value.

It’s been a while since we’ve talked about Gear4 product, so it’s a good idea to check in with the dock makers and see what they’re bringing out by way of the Gear4 House Party AirWave.

What they’ve got here is actually pretty impressive for a relatively compact system: it’s got a pair of 20 watt speakers (which is actually higher power than a lot of televisions–which often stop around 15 watts–will pack, to give you an idea of the relative power going on here), and if you’re using an Apple device (iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad), you’ll be able to get an app to control the device via Wi-Fi, letting you both search and control Internet radio stations (of which there are a steadily growing quantity), as well as DAB and regular FM, too, while also displaying song titles, relevant artists, and information about the station itself.

And just in case you happen to be a PC for life, fear not–there’s an Aux-in port for those of you who eschew the mighty Apple and favor other MP3 products, though their capability with the streaming and such is somewhat unclear.

Sounds pretty sweet, no mistake, and for this kind of utility it’s really not surprising they’re asking right around 150 pounds sterling for it (about $236.63 US), and if that’s got your home audio attention by the nose, you can actually pick the Gear4 House Party AirWave up right now.
