Free OnLive MicroConsole For “Founding Members” [Early OnLive Adapters To Get Free MicroConsole & Other Goodies, Says CEO Steve Perlman]
OnLive may have seemed like some pipedream vaporware just a year ago (remember the Phantom?), but now it’s out and doing quite well. So well, in fact, that OnLive is rewarding their early adopters. In a blog entry on the website, former webTV founder and OnLive CEO Steve “woot woot” Perlman announced that they had some gifts for the “Founding Members”. Free MicroConsole, anybody?

If you’re a founding member who bought one game, you’ll be given a free game on the service. If you’re a member who bought TWO games on the service, guess what – you’ll get a free MicroConsole. Pretty amazing, right?
Perlman explains in the blog:
It takes a certain kind of person to try out something that is an entirely new concept, and beyond that, spend hard-earned money on it, believing that it has a future. Because Founding Members like you believed in OnLive, you made it possible for us to analyze OnLive usage patterns, for us to be able to test millions of Internet connections throughout the US, and for us to understand what users like and don’t like. Without your help, we could not have gotten to where we are today.
In case you’re not aware, OnLive is a cloud gaming service where their servers will render the game and send the video back to your house, while you send the control inputs back their servers. Early adopters had to use the PC or Mac client, and the MicroConsole (as we’ve throughly covered on this site) is a little set-top box that sort of emulates the console experience. OnLive uses modified versions of PC games, so I’m not sure how well they’ll play on a TV.
Regardless, OnLive has a lot of fans, is being really well received – and now, if you were an early supporter, you’re getting a free MicroConsole. Great news!
