BlackBerry Bold 9780 On AT&T: Coming Soon? [AT&T-branded Bold 9780 With Proper UMTS Bands Shows Up Early On eBay, Coming Next Year, Seller Says]

Right now, the top-notch BlackBerry Bold 9780 (one of the first Bold phones running BlackBerry OS 6.0!) is a T-Mobile exclusive, having come out about a week ago. Did you expect it to come to AT&T? Without any word or warning, an eBay listing appeared selling the phone with AT&T branding, and – according to the seller – the correct UMTS bands to get 3G service on AT&T. The phone sold for a steep $825.

You could buy a Bold 9780 from T-Mobile, unlock it, and use it on AT&T – as they both use GSM in their networks. But they use different UMTS (3G) bands, so you would not be able to use 3G on AT&T (this is what I call the “unlocked iPhone delimma” – as people who use unlocked iPhones in the US on T-Mobile will give up 3G speeds). The seller of this AT&T-branded Bold 9780 claims that it’s legit and will use AT&T’s 3G network – a must for any cell phone.

According to the seller, the phone will remain a T-Mobile exclusive until AT&T gets it “next year”. Quite the find. Unfortunately, the guy didn’t go into how he got the phone, but from our careful analysis, everything looks legit.

BlackBerry fans are fanatically loyal about their ‘Berries, and even with the steep price of $825, somebody jumped on the auction and snapped up the unlocked 9780 with AT&T bands.

What do you think? Too high? A great deal? AT&T customers, are you excited for this phone to come to AT&T next year? Tell us about it in the comments section.

Yes, I cannot wait until the 9780 is released with AT&T! I’ve had iPhones for about 3 years and am thinking about switching to a Blackberry, the 5 megapixel camera makes me want to even more. BBM also sweetens the deal, if AT&T gets it in white then I’m running over to my local store.

Looks like I may be settling for the 9700 right now. I can’t wait another year for the 9780; which I so desperately want. My 9000 is running out of memory. If someone knows how to correct this; I won’t have a problem with waiting on the 9780. It’s amazing how BB users are just as loyal as Apple consumers.
