Kinect "Off To Rough Start" Sales-Wise In Japan According To Retailer

Microsoft's Japanese Kinect Sales Not Up To Move Figures

Japan has always been the odd one out for Microsoft (never for the competition though) and that doesn’t seem about to change, as Redmond’s track record of not “getting” the Japanese like, at all stands untarnished. Not that they’re losing sleep over it or anything, for all their efforts at making a big show of marketing pushes into Japan every year  they’ve pretty much abandoned the Japanese to their own devices, barely any of which are Kinects, but a hell of a lot of which are card-carrying members of the Move family.

1Up talked to a Tsutaya merchandiser who clued them in to Japanese Kinect realities like the fact that even though Kinect is “targeting light [videogame] users”, the bulk of purchases were by “existing [Xbox 360] owners.” and that Move was selling better by far even though it’s been on the market a lot longer. We admit we’re as surprised as the next person, we mean Microsoft gave everyone a free tape measure. Ingrates.
