Activision Promises Call Of Duty Black Ops & Beyond Online Will Always Be Free

Call Of Duty Will Never Go Subscription For Multiplayer, Activision CEOs Promise

Eric Hirschberg, Activision’s CEO of publishing wants to lay your fears to rest. “Are we going to be charging for multiplayer? The answer is no,”  he said. Are you not soothed and comforted? Don’t worry, he talks some more. And unlike that other Activision CEO, he mostly talks sense, mostly on how to avoid ruining a blockbuster franchise.

He goes on to explain how the “integral” COD experience would be a hell of a lot less integral if they started to saw chunks off it and sell them separately, a point we can’t help but heartily agree on. “The experience you have out of the box, connecting with the online community to play Call of Duty is absolutely integral to the experience and we’ll never charge for that. It’s not going to be something we’ll attempt to monetize; it’s part of the package.” is how he put it.

He also tried to counter assertions by analysts and rumormongers to the effect that Call Of Duty multiplayer is going subscription-based, Michael Pachter’s chief among them. “Nothing we or anyone else tries is going to work if it doesn’t have tremendous value for people and add a tremendous value to the gaming experience.” Hallelujah brother, you’re preaching to the choir.
