iOS 4.2 / 4.2.1 Jailbreak Via Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 Now Available

iPhone, iPad & iPod touch on iOS 4.2 / 4.2.1 Jailbreak Available to the Crowds Thanks to Redsn0w 0.9.6b4

iOS 4.2 / iOS 4.2.1 was announced yesterday morning and then made available to the crowds later during the day. Besides the joy of iPad owners of finally using the features and perks of iOS 4.x on their tablet there’s one more reason to be happy Apple finally launched the new OS: new jailbreak and unlock tools updates are supposed to arrive in the very near future and we already know that so many iPhone 4 users are particularly excited about the arrival of iOS 4.2 / 4.2.1.

The first jailbreak update that hit the streets is iPhone Dev Team’s Redsn0w, version 0.9.6b4, which will jailbreak all Apple iOS devices. iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPad, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G & iPod touch 2G (MC Model) will get a tethered jailbreak while the iPhone 3GS (old bootrom), iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (non-MC Model) will get an untethered jailbreak thanks to Redsn0w 0.9.6b4.

In case you were wondering, and especially if you have been keeping tabs on Limera1n, GreenPois0n, PwnageTool and Redsn0w updates, this new jailbreak update is still based on geohot’s limera1n exploit, which is basically used by all the tools mentioned above. But before proceeding to actually updating your iPhone, iPod or iPad to iOS 4.2/4.2.1, it would be a good idea backing up your iOS 4.1 SHSH blobs, in case you have an already jailbroken iOS device, so you can downgrade to iOS 4.1 at any time iOS 4.2 would let you down.

Also, if you’re interested in unlocking the device than please hang on to your shorts and don’t proceed to upgrading to iOS 4.2/4.2.1 no matter how cool you hear it is until the iPhone Dev Team will have more details for unlockers as the ultrasn0w unlock, the one we kept talking about in the past weeks, is on its way of becoming official too.

In case you have already jailbroken your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad running iOS 4.2/4.2.1, then let us know how it all worked out for you.
