BLACK FRIDAY: Ultrasn0w iPhone iOS 4.2 Unlock Coming by Black Friday?

This isn’t the regular deal you’d expect for this time of the year, but it’s still something you’ll get for a lot cheaper than expected. The iPhone (4, 3GS and 3G) iOS 4.2/4.2.1 Ultrasn0w unlock seems to be on its way and it might hit the web this Black Friday, or at some point around it (just as initially rumored).

Call it a coincidence or not but Apple launched its new iOS version yesterday, a few days before Black Friday (maybe to encourage Black Friday iPad sales) and following it the iPhone Dev Team already released a new Redsn0w jailbreak version ready to jailbreak all iOS 4.2/4.2.1 devices. But you already know that so let’s take a closer look at the inevitable unlock tool that should be available to the masses soon.

The iPhone Dev Team announced in a recent blog post called “Thanksgiving with Apple” the new Redsn0w iOS 4.2/4.2.1 jailbreak but it also mentioned the unlock. In fact, here are some quotes from that blog post talking about the Ultrasn0w unlock arrival, backed up in full by MuscleNerd’s tweet above:

With Turkey Day a few days off, today Apple publicly released FW version 4.2.1. As always, ultrasn0w unlockers please stay far far away from this official firmware (and all official firmware). Wait for the ability to create custom 4.2.1. IPSWs that don’t update your baseband!

ultrasn0w unlock: After redsn0w is officially released with the new Cydia and kernel patches, we’ll be able to assess the unlock situation. It’s already looking very promising though, so expect the unlock for the 3G and 3GS to be coming this week. The i4 unlock is taking more effort though, and no further concrete info is available about that yet.

As you can see we have partial good news for you this week. The iPhone 3G and 3GS running iOS 4.2/4.2.1 will be both jailbreakable and unlockable now. If the stars will be properly aligned, then the Ultrasn0w unlock will arrive at some point in the next few days, just in time for Black Friday. Again, that’s a pleasant coincidence, but one that could prove to be very important for your budget. If you plan to buy a cheaper iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.2/4.2.1 and want to unlock it then you might just be in luck as it looks like an unlock method is going to be available at some point this week.

On the other hand most of our readers that keep asking us about iOS 4.x unlock tools for the iPhone 4 will be disappointed to have to wait, and their waiting might be extended to a few more days past Cyber Monday. The iPhone 4 will be unlocked in the near future, but, at this point we have no potential release dates for you, so don’t despair while there’s still hope.

As always we don’t encourage you to jailbreak, unlock or root any device, and if you do decide to do any of that it will be your sole responsibility should things go wrong. But we do encourage you not to waste any time, efforts and, in most cases, money, on other non-iPhone-Dev-Team iPhone 4 iOS 4.2/4.2.1 unlock methods that are most likely not going to work. Rather wait a few extra days for the iPhone Dev Team to come out with more details, since you’ve been waiting for a while now. Ultrasn0w for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS will be out soon and a proper announcement will bring us a lot more details soon.
