Next weekend, when you’re done with Thanksgiving and discover that you still have three days before you need to go back to work/school (unless you’re working on Black Friday, or your boss is otherwise a jerk), Treyarch is inviting you to come and throw some tomahawks at some unsuspecting noobs. PRNews is reporting that they’ve received an email not only inviting them to participate in a free weekend trial of Xbox Live Gold, but also that Treyarch is giving out double XP for Black Ops multiplayer games played between Friday the 26th and Sunday the 28th.
There’s no word yet on when the free weekend begins and ends, or whether or not this double XP weekend will happen for PS3 and PC players. However, I’m assuming that both PS3 and PC users will be able to take part in this, as it seems like a pretty mean move for Treyarch to leave them out in the cold.
As far as the free Gold weekend goes, I’ve got to hand it to Microsoft for being quite clever with this particular marketing scheme. I’m sure that after playing Black Ops online for an entire weekend, there will be more than a few disconnected gamers who won’t be able to resist the urge to sell their souls to Microsoft.

“Unfortunately the dates for the Call of Duty: Black Ops Double XP Weekend were published incorrectly and it will not be happening this weekend (November 26-28) as previously advertised. A Double XP Weekend for Call of Duty: Black Ops on Xbox LIVE will take place in the future and we will bring you more information when we can.
Did you know that all “Call of Duty” add-on content & map packs will launch first on Xbox 360 through 2012, starting with content associated with the Nov. 9 release of Call of Duty: Black Ops.
