In the US, retail spending is at $10 billion (about £6.2 B) during the week of Thanksgiving. From 22nd to 26th November, expect big discounts, especially on gadgets. At present, we can already see indicative discounts on gadgets, among others:

Amazon UK’s spokesman Brian McBride is optimistic with the Black Friday sale turnout. “For many years, shoppers on the other side of the Atlantic have benefited from massive savings offered by retailers around Black Friday, and customers in the UK will now be able to enjoy that same experience.”

Black Friday is marked with limited sale events, which often change depending on stock availability and consumer preferences. British retailers are not exactly sure how to deal with the upcoming sale season given shaky consumer confidence in the region, although sales figures showed a positive turnout in the previous month.

However, there is a need to be competitive, especially as Black Friday in the US usually marks the start of the holiday shopping and spending season. While retailers note the need to cover their costs–for staffing, stocking, advertising, and the like–they will need to think of deals that will entice consumers into bring in much-needed cash.

Retail jitters or not, consumers will be the clear winners, as more people will get to buy prized gadgets and other items for themselves or as gifts for loved ones.
