Samsung Google TV Coming Soon
Bloomberg, the financial news outlet, is reporting that Korean tech giant Samsung will be producing Google TVs, with the announcement to be made in January, most likely at CES. Yoo Boo Keun told Bloomberg that details of the new Google TVs weren’t finalized.

Smart TVs are nothing new for Samsung. They’ve introduced internet-connected TVs that can run web widgets. Those new HDTVs have been promoted heavily in recent months by American retailer Best Buy. According to Bloomberg, Samsung and other TV manufacturers are constantly looking for new features to sell consumers as HDTV prices continue to decline.
The Google TV initiative was announced this year between Google, Sony, Logitech and Intel, with Sony producing the first “Google TV” while Logitech produced a small set-top box that carries the same software. So far, reviews for the Google TV software have been mixed-to-poor. Intel provided the chipsets for both the TV and the set-top box and Samsung’s Mr. Yoon told Bloomberg that they would consider using Intel chips in their HDTVs.
Samsung seems to be betting heavily on the “app” craze that has taken over mobile phones as spreading to HDTVs. They probably have the best implementation of the “apps” on their internet-connected HDTVs, and could be beating Apple to the punch, if Apple does (as some have suggested) start allowing apps on the Apple TV (which is running a heavily modified version of iOS).
Anyway, look for Samsung to announce a Google TV product at CES next year.
