Gmail, Hotmail Both Go Down On Same Day Facebook Email Killer Announced
Just how much pull does Mark Zuckerberg have when it comes to the internet? In what can only be described as a couple of truly hilarious crashes yesterday, both Hotmail and Gmail suffered outages just hours after Zuckerberg announced that his Facebook site would be launching something that has been described as an email killer.

Gmail’s outage was actually quite a bit shorter than Hotmail’s as the Google owned email service admitted that they had suffered an outage for about 10 minutes that also affected users’ ability to get into Google Docs. Hotmail was reportedly down for over an hour and both outages seemed particularly ironic considering that AOL has also announced a new email service that for the moment is invitation only but will soon be available for the general public. If Gmail and Hotmail want to prove Facebook wrong when it says it will end their dominion over email, it doesn’t help to infuriate their users with repeated outages.
