BLACK FRIDAY: CedarPC Offers Up Slate of Computer Deals

Mixed Media Retailer CedarPC Warns Shoppers About Trusting Black Friday Deals, Offers Their Own Instead

It’s always just a little on the suspect side to hear a computer retailer go on a press offensive saying that big box Black Friday deals aren’t really deals at all, and it certainly doesn’t help when they go on to list their own. But for computer seller CedarPC, they’re looking to go after just this strange combination of trash talk and big deals, so take it in whatever direction you’d like.

CedarPC kicks things off by having CEO John Veung say this:

“Many big name companies won’t be featuring crazy deals. Instead, they’ll be counting on consumer unawareness and store name familiarity for sales as they continue to water down their Black Friday bargains.”

And after a leadoff like that, his market analysts go on to further blow our minds by asserting that it’s actually the two weekends before Christmas that account for retail stores’ largest gains, while Black Friday is just the largest single day for consumer traffic. Thus, according to CedarPC, Black Friday is really just a marketing ploy bolstered by some small discounts…except, of course, at small retailers. Those small retailers are willing to sacrifice a bit of profit to get better word of mouth. So it’s really rather handy that CedarPC is in fact a small retailer!

Though you’ve got to admit, the kind of deals they’re talking about here are substantial to say the least, especially if you don’t mind the words “used” or “refurbished” popping up. And while you’ll get more deals out of this if you live near the company’s Chantilly, VA location, you’ll have a variety of web-only deals available to you too on Black Friday, deals like a refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad Z61t laptop for $199, a Dell Inspiron 560s desktop for $299, or a Dell IN1920 LCD monitor for $49.

After seeing some of the deals coming up on Black Friday (and you’ve seen the same ones I have right here), it sure seems like there are pretty good savings to be had all over, whether it’s at a small retailer or a big box giant.
