Verizon Windows Phone 7: Verizon Starts Selling HTC Trophy to Microsoft Employees
By now, you know the story. Windows Phone 7 doesn’t have support for CDMA phones at launch, leaving two major US carriers – Sprint and Verizon – out of all the recent Windows Phone 7 launch fun. Regardless of Microsoft’s strange omissions, CDMA support is coming, and you know that Verizon will be carrying WP7 phones. Now, they’ve been tipped. Verizon will be carrying the HTC Trophy.

A secret tipster set popular tech blog Engadget flyer offering Microsoft employees a “special offer” that allows them to pre-order the HTC Trophy, coming to Verizon in “early 2011″. Well, we know what phone is coming to Verizon.
Verizon has been pretty mum on WP7, aside from saying today that they’d offer them as soon as available. There’s been a few mild suggestions as to what phone could be coming to Verizon and Sprint.
Here’s the features of the HTC Trophy:
- 3.8-inch scree
- 1Ghz processor
- 512MB RAM, 16GB storage
- 5MP camera
The Verizon flyer also identifies the Trophy as a “quad-band global phone”, meaning a GSM SIM slot for roaming internationally, something that Verizon has neglected in the past, but has been getting in their phones more and more often lately.
Despite the fact that the Trophy is coming to Verizon. We still don’t expect America’s #1 carrier to make WP7 a big part of their lineup. They’ve invested heavily in the Droid brand (they license the name “Droid” from LucasFilm, not to mention all the money spent on marketing) and another phone they could be getting in January will likely be a big part of their lineup.
Still don’t believe me? Last month, Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam told CNET that Verizon wasn’t expecting much from Windows Phone 7, and they expect RIM, Android and iOS to be the major smartphone platforms, going forward. Ouch.
Despite that, unless that flyer is one hell of a fake, it looks like Verizon will be carrying the HTC Trophy early next year.
