HTC Merge Appears At Best Buy

Best Buy Internal Inventory Listing Shows Verizon's T-Mobile G2 / HTC Desire Z Showing Up, Is It Coming By Black Friday?

The phone known as the HTC Merge or HTC Lexikon looks to be a thinly veiled variant of the HTC Desire Z, which is a flagship offering on rival T-Mobile as the T-Mobile G2. The T-Mobile G2 has been getting all the attention in the United States thus far, but that could change as leaked internal Best Buy listings show that the HTC Merge (ADR6325) has been added to their inventory system. Black Friday special?

The page from Best Buy Mobile shows all Verizon HTC phones that they have or do offer. Careful readers will notice there is no mention of the Incredible HD or Stingray tablet or anything like that, but does the inclusion of the HTC Merge mean that the phone is coming soon?

Is it too little, too late for the HTC Merge, though? Let’s review the specs (assuming they’re similar to the T-Mobile G2). It’s got a 3.7-inch screen, a 800MHz processor and Android 2.2 with a slider keyboard. Compare that to the recently released Droid 2 World Edition. That brings the same 3.7-inch screen, a 1.2GHz processor, Android 2.2 with a slider keyboard. Unless you prefer the Desire Z styling over the Droid 2, it’s be hard to pass up that faster core, in our opinion.

Another advantage the Droid 2 World has over the alleged Merge/Lexikon? The Merge, not being branded with Verizon’s Droid brand image, means that it will ship with Bing as the search engine – not Google. Does that matter to you? You may want to consider getting the Droid 2 World Edition, instead of this phone.
