Apple iTunes 10.1 Now Available

Apple Rolls-Out iTunes 10.1 As Expected, Adds AirPlay For Video & Preps Path For iOS 4.2

There were a few big, or at least three expected updates coming from Apple this week. We had OS X 10.6.5, iTunes 10.1 and iOS 4.2. So far the OS X update arrived back on November 10th and now we have the second of the three — iTunes 10.1.

Yes the latest version of iTunes has arrived and is currently available for download by way of the Apple website. At present the software itself has not yet begun prompting to update, but that should change sooner rather than later. In the meantime you can either sit back be patient and wait for the prompt or head on over to the Apple website.

Me personally, I can hold off on getting iTunes 10.1 until I have iOS 4.2 and as we have heard rumored before, that has been pushed back until the 16th of November. I am fairly certain I am not alone in this respect, but I hope that turns out not to be the case. Of course, with the reports of Wi-Fi issues in 4.2 is sounds like it may be better holding it back.

Moving back to iTunes and version 10.1, there are a few new features included. According to the “What’s new in iTunes 10.1″ listing;

  • Use AirPlay to instantly and wirelessly stream videos from iTunes to the all-new Apple TV.
  • Sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 4.2.
  • Provides a number of important stability and performance improvements.

With that, there is nothing further (at least at the moment) as to what that stability and performance improvements included. As for iTunes 10.1, that is compatible with 7, Vista and XP on the Windows side and those running OS X 10.5 or later on the Mac side. Of course, in the end I am more than likely going to finish typing this post up and then heading to Apple.com to download and install the latest version of iTunes — but not so much because I want that but so I can be fully prepared to update once iOS 4.2 is available.
