iPhone 5 (& iPad 2?) Getting 8-megapixel Camera from OmniVision?

New 8-MP OmniVision OV8820 Camera Sensor Unveiled; Created for iPhone 5 & iPad 2?

If OmniVision sounds familiar to you that’s because the company is responsible for the current cameras of the iPhone 4 and it is also rumored to create the iPad 2 cameras, as well as the next-gen iPhone cameras.

In fact today we learned that the company announced a new camera sensor that’s probably made for, but not limited to, iOS devices. The OV8820 is an 8-megapixel CMOS-based sensor that will surely offer you better pictures and images while on the go.

The OV8820 will offer you a 1.4-micron OmniBSI pixel architecture, high frame rate (1080p/30 and 720p/60 high-definition video), electronic image stabilization, full horizontal field of view, backside illumination pixel architecture for better low-light picture taking and “advanced video capabilities that support YouTube and Facebook applications.”

On the other hand, if you’re a pro then you definitely have a better camera to take with you on the go, don’t you?

OmniVision will not tell us outright that the next-gen iPhone 5 is getting this new camera sensor, but we’re certainly not expecting the device to come with the same 5-megapixel shooter the iPhone 4 has. On the other hand the iPad 2 might not be so fortunate and use the same iPhone 4 camera, which is still a lot better than nothing.
