iPad iOS 4.2 Release Date: November 12, Following Today’s iTunes 10.1 Update?

A couple of days we told you that iOS 4.2 is scheduled to arrive on November 9 or November 12. Well, November 9 just passed so it looks like this next Friday we’ll all be in for an interesting iOS 4.2 launch.

I say interesting since there are a few million Apple customers out there that are waiting for iOS 4.x to hit their iPads. The OS is not as important for iPhones and iPod touches, devices that have been using iOS 4.x for a few months now, as it is for iPad users that have been waiting for multitasking and all the other six tent poles of iOS 4 since September, which was the month Cupertino promised to bring this new OS to its tablet.

Moving on to the iOS 4.2 update itself, sources say that Apple will initially launch iTunes 10.1 and Mac OS X 10.6.5 today, while iOS 4.2 will arrive on Friday 12. You’ll ask why the iTunes and Mac OS X updates are required to hit before iOS 4.2 and there’s a simple answer for that: AirPrint and AirPlay require that both iTunes and your Macs get updated right along your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

One other important thing to remember is that iOS 4.2 will finally unify the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad under the same OS and all these devices, no matter what generation, will run the same OS version. Speaking of previous iPhone and iPod touch generations, I will remind you that iOS 4.2 is also said to improve the general performance of the iPhone 3G, one more reason to anxiously wait for iOS 4.2 to hit.
