Cydia: iOS 4.2 Beta SHSH Blobs Saved For iOS 4.2 Untethered Jailbreak

iOS 4.2 Jailbreak Coming But Untethered Jailbreak Requires iOS 4.2 SHSH Blobs Saved on Cydia

iOS 4.2 is supposed to arrive to all iOS devices out there, and I bet iPad owners are the ones that really want to upgrade to iOS 4.2 as the new OS version will finally bring them multitasking and other iOS 4 features.

But with the new iOS 4.2 coming we (and by we I mean you guys) have to get ready for the upcoming jailbreak and unlock challenges. First, a little history! iOS 4.1 has recently been jailbroken by three distinct jailbreaking solutions, Limra1n, GreenPois0n and PwnageTool, all based on the same Limera1n bootrom exploit. Thanks to the nature of the exploit, Apple will not be able to prevent it with a simple update, but the userland exploit needed to offer an untethered jailbreak to iOS users could be neutralized. That doesn’t mean jailbreaking will be stopped by Apple, at least not on current iOS devices but just that untethered jailbreaking might not be available to some iOS customers.

In order to still enjoy an untethered jailbreak (the iOS device doesn’t have to be connected to a different device to perform the jailbreak) you will have to save SHSH blobs with Cydia right now, before iOS 4.2 comes out. Otherwise you’ll have to jailbreak iOS 4.2 devices the old, tethered way.

In case you have been using iOS 4.2 beta so far then you can go ahead and save your iOS 4.2 beta SHSH blobs as Cydia will allow you to do that. This process will ensure that your iOS 4.2 jailbreak will be an untethered one. If you are currently using a jailbroken iOS 4.1 device, then maybe you should consider saving your iOS 4.1 SHSH blobs too.

Jailbreaking is required for performing the iOS 4.2 unlock so many iPhone users out there are waiting for. That means that you should pay attention to all the iOS 4.x information that comes along mentioning jailbreaks and unlocks before actually proceeding to performing any of these two operations. The unlock for iOS 4.2 should be released in the following days after iOS 4.2 gets released but it will require a proper jailbreak in order to actually be useful.

We’ll be back with more iOS 4.2 jailbreak and unlock details for you in the following days, not because we’re advising you to go for such hacks but only to inform you on the latest developments in the iOS universe.
