Sharp Galapagos 003SH & 005SH 3D Android Phones Launched in Japan

Sharp Galapagos Supports Naked-Eye 3D With Autostereo Screens. Look, Ma! No Glasses!

3D seems to be the buzzword in game, TV, and movie technology these days. But what if you can also view 3D content right on your mobile phone without the usual 3D glasses? Sharp–maker of the Nintendo 3DS screens–will let you do just that very soon. If you’re in Japan!

Sharp has announced two new Android smartphone offerings, the 003SH and 005SH. Both will feature glasses-free 3D displays, which mean you can view content in full three-dimensional glory with the naked eye. (Yes, we said naked! That should keep folks interested.)

Both models will come with Android 2.2 running on a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, and sport a 9.6-megapixel camera. The 3D displays for both models will support a 800×480 pixel resolution. The 003SH will only come with touchscreen, but the 005SH will feature a slide-out QWERTY keypad.

Did we mention you can see 3D onscreen without glasses?

Both 3D Galapagos phones will retail only in Japan, though. No word on pricing yet, and whether these will also be marketed internationally. The 003SH starts selling in December this year, and the 005SH in February 2011.

I want that 3D Android phone with the slide out keyboard! That keyboard looks awesome with this stylish phone! I have been holding off purchasing an Android phone until one this caliber came out. I am very excited of the news of this phone and I hope they release this or a better one in the U.S. soon!
