Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 Black Spotted in the Wild

Sony Ericsson's Mid-Level X8 Android Phone Sports New Color. But Does This Mean They're Upgrading to a Newer Android Anytime Soon?

I recently got my hands on a borrowed Xperia X8. So far, Android has been a big adjustment from mobile OSes I’m used to (iOS and Symbian). However, white just doesn’t suit me. I’ve got a black iPhone, a black Nokia E-series, black laptops and black netbooks. I want my black Xperia X8!

The black incarnation of this affordable Android smartphone had been previously announced by SonyEricsson. However, no one has actually seen one in the market. With a few ones spotted in the wild, does this mean that black X8′s are forthcoming? I hope so.

But what I’m more interested in (and perhaps other Xperia users out there) is whether this new release will come bundled with a new Android version.

Sony Ericsson’s Android offerings like the X8 and X10 have been languishing in Android 1.6 purgatory for so long. Reports say the Xperias will get an upgrade to Eclair (2.1) soon. That’s no Froyo, but at least it’s a step up.
